The Journey

Kampung Kok Mak, which is about six kilometers from the town of Padang Besar, is an ordinary settlement, but it is enlivened with horse riding activities run by a young man.

Interestingly, Kok Mak Stable, run by Mat Farhan Mohamad, 35, also provides a caravan and a hobbit house which is famous in the movie The Lord of The Rings as one of the attractions for visitors to the location.

In addition, visitors will also enjoy sights such as agricultural fields and animal husbandry while riding horses in the area.

Speaking to Utusan Malaysia, Mat Farhan said that the stable or horse farm was opened in 2018 and until now there are seven horses with most of them being Polo breeds from Argentina and Quarterpaints from America.

He said, they focus more on educating visitors about the activities such as teaching the basics of riding, balancing and controlling horses.

“We guide those who ride these horses. Since opening, the response received has been very encouraging, including from overseas visitors. These activities indirectly help boost tourism in the state.

“We offer a basic package of horse riding which is RM60 for a 40-minute session. Joyride is RM50 for 30 minutes and outride in Chuping Valley is RM250 for two hours. The accommodation package at the hobbit house is RM150 a night,” he said.

Mat Farhan added, the caravan provided here is the first in Perlis to have the facilities of a bed, living room, kitchen, dining table and toilet.

He explained that the caravan was bought from the United Kingdom and arrived here two months ago.

“The caravan package for six people is RM1,000, which means going out to Chuping Valley, Timah Tasoh Sanctuary and Bukit Chabang, while if you don’t go out, it’s RM600 a night,” he said.

He said the area will be improved from time to time as the response is getting more encouraging every day, especially during school holidays and weekends. – Utusan.
